By pushing the house deep into the site, we were able to orient the views away from the two neighbors and into the wooded lot and distant views while maintaining a very small footprint to preserve all of the mature deciduous trees. The site strategy created a vertically organized house accessed from a bridge that connects the grade of the street and parking with the public spaces of the house. The singular, more opaque vertical volume, which contains the bedrooms, is 'carved' into to define the public spaces (both interior and exterior) of the house. The main living spaces are treated as a singular volume that is inserted into the 2 story void. The interstitial space between the inserted public volume and the private, opaque mass defines a fully integrated, covered exterior living area, with 270 degree views of the site.
*Through Previous Association: Bob was a Principal: Architect/Designer at Hobgood Architects (Architect of Record) for over 8 years.
